RLT KS1 Multiskills Festival
Tue 29 Nov 2022On Wednesday, the Year 1 and 2 children all had a fantastic time at their group section of the RLT Multi-skills Festival, held at Cottesmore Academy.
Miss Barker and Mrs Wingrove took the children to take part in a variety of different activities to develop their sports skills. There were activities developing balance and jumping, as well as using different sports apparatus.
The staff said the children were amazing and that they were a credit to the school, both in their application to each activity and in their behaviour and sportsmanship. Well done everyone!

Puzzle Day
Tue 22 Nov 2022On Tuesday the children all had the opportunity to take part in a puzzle workshop as part of a resilience Puzzle Day.
The day started with a workshop for Teal class, where the children had to work in groups to solve a variety of puzzles. The focus was on being resilient, working together and keeping going when things got tricky!
Aqua class then had the opportunity to take part in a puzzle workshop, again working together to solve each activity.
In the afternoon, Navy and Cobalt classes worked together on an 'escape room' puzzle, where they had to solve each puzzle in turn, to release a code to unlock the next box. These were harder than they looked! Again, teamwork was required and a lot of patience when things did not initially go as planned!
A huge thank you to Resilient Rutland for funding the day, and to the Puzzle Company for some excellent activities.

Children in Need
Sat 19 Nov 2022The children had a lovely day on Friday raising money for Children in Need. A huge thank you to our School Council for organising our fundraising efforts, for icing cakes for our cake stall and for sorting our craft competition.
The children all came in home clothes, bringing a donation for Children in Need. The. School Council sold delicious cakes for 50p at break time which were enjoyed by all!
Over the past week or so the children had also been busy creating entries for our Children in Need Craft competition. Entries included artwork, cakes and biscuits and even a few puppets! Congratulations to our class winners who each took home a Pudsey bear, kindly donated by Derek, one of our governors.
In total we raised over £300, which is a fantastic achievement for a such a small school! This money will all go to help the charities and organisations supported by Children in Need.

Remembrance Day
Fri 11 Nov 2022On Friday morning, Years 4, 5 and 6 walked down to the Exton War Memorial to take part in the village Act of Remembrance for 2022.
As ever, the children stood respectfully during the two minute silence and through the reading of the names of those who died in the village and surrounding area in the world wars. The children also shared some of the poems they had been writing in school reflecting thoughts around remembrance. Some of these are shared below.
Lest We Forget
May we respect
Those who fought and fell. We remember
How they lost their lives for our freedom,
No other stories to tell.
We will never forget.
May we respect.
Scarlet red poppies are bought to wear
As we remember those who passed
Never to return.
We will never forget.
May we respect.
To stand and honour in silence for two minutes
On the eleventh month, eleventh day and eleventh hour
As the war officially ended.
We will never forget.
Mia
Remembrance
As soldiers fought below on the floor,
Planes above began to soar.
Germans struggled to hold the beach,
The Allied victory seemed out of reach.
Tanks were roaring, planes were soaring,
Soldiers were crawling.
As the Allies reached the bunker bombing and brawling.
The object was clear and casualties were treated
The Germans surrendered as they were defeated.
As we remember those who fell
We ask a poppy, for only they can tell.
Poppies are bought for many who fought,
As we think gratefully as lessons are taught.
Fenton
Remembrance
May we remember those who fell,
For those who come back with no stories to tell
For all the people who were left behind,
Who meant no harm and just want to be kind.
For all the people who wore poppies red as blood
Who worked and worked and did all they could.
For all the people working till dawn,
But no trace of a yawn.
For all the people who heard explosions and gun shots.
The people who tried and tried but got themselves in knots.
For all the people in their homes like a palace.
Until they got on the battlefield, where they got treated with malice.
For all the people that came in a storm,
In future years they still have a day to mourn.
For all the people that got promoted to peace makers,
Now, because of them, we have no haters.

RLT Cross Country
Fri 11 Nov 2022It was good running weather for the Rutland Learning Trust Cross Country on Friday - not too hot, and not too cold!
We took a happy band of Year 3 children to go and take part in the Year 3 boys and girls races. They all did really well, remembering not to set off too quickly, and to pace themselves around the course. Everyone made it to the finish line, and it was lovely to hear of some of our children slowing to encourage each other to get to the finish. Well done year 3!
Cherry represented our older year groups, running in the Year 6 girls race. Again, a good steady start meant that she was able to move gradually through the field, finishing a very respectable 12th.
Well done to all who took part, and to those parents who helped with transporting children and marshalling at the event.

RLT Maths Day
Fri 04 Nov 2022Friday 4th November was the Rutland Learning Trust Maths day and there were a variety of maths activities going on across the school.
The theme of the day was 'maths through art' and the children enjoyed looking for maths in art work, and creating mathematical art of their own.
EYFS and year 1 looked at creating artwork using the 2D shapes that they knew, whilst at the other end of the school children were exploring the work of Mondrian and creating artwork using different perimeters and areas and looking at Mondrian's paintings.
A good time was had by all!
