Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2023-24.

  • Young Carers' Assembly

    Thu 26 Apr 2018 M Davis

Today we were visited by the people who run the Young Carers' support groups in Rutland. They, along with a pupil who is a young carer, introduced the children to what a young carer was, and what the groups do to support young carers.

The assembly started with a game where we had to stand up if we were in a particular group. This highlighted that sometimes people do things that we don't know about, and that we perhaps don't know everything that someone  is going through.

We then watched a short video presented by Young Carers about the Young Stars group and the activities that they do. It all looked lots of fun!

  • FOEGS Taskforce

    Sat 21 Apr 2018 M Davis

The sun shone down on us on Saturday morning - the perfect weather for our Taskforce morning!

A happy band of parents worked together for most of the morning to re-stain the outside covered area from a very faded green to a more vibrant blue. A particular thank you to those who realised we could eke out the paint to finish the last couple of panels! The greenhouse was also cleaned out to make it more useful for gardening club.

Inside, Mr Chalkley, our Chair of Governors, was hard at work rebuilding shelves in our paper store, having taken them apart the previous day to make the space more useful. Miss Bevins sorted the contents of the cupboard so that we now have a more user friendly space.

The children who came watered flower beds and kept the adults provided with refreshments as well as having a little go with the painting.

It is mornings like these that remind me what a wonderful school community we have, with everyone pulling together to help keep our school the wonderful place that it is. Thank you to all involved.

  • Year 5/6 TAG Rugby tournament

    Tue 17 Apr 2018 M Davis

Today was the postponed year 5/6 TAG Rugby tournament at Oakham Rugby Club. Our intrepid team set off in high spirits to take part in the Osprey League - seeing an osprey on the way there felt like a good omen for our chances in the matches!

In some closely fought battles we lost our first two matches. We learnt from our mistakes and won our second two matches. There was some great teamwork to grab TAGs and to make sure that the ball made it safely across the line. We all found our inner 'grr'!

I was very proud of all of our team, not only in how well they played, but how they worked together and supported each other as a team. Fab work!

A huge thank you to Drew's mum Ruth for accompanying us and acting as referee. Your expertise was much appreciated by not only our school, but also the other schools that you refereed for.

As an entirely year 5 team, the future looks good for next year's tournament!
