  • Harvest Festival

    Fri 27 Sep 2019 M Davis

What a fantastic Harvest Festival we had this morning! All of the children did a fantastic job, sharing songs, poems and prayers and telling us a little more about the work of the Foodbank.

Our youngest class, Aqua, shared work from their Science learning and from RE through two lovely songs, whilst Teal class were a little more 'modern' with a farming themed rap! Cobalt class shared lines from prayers and poems they had written. The singing, as ever, was amazing, and there was a real sense of thankfulness - which is what a Harvest Festival is all about.

A huge thank you to all of our parents, families and friends for their generous donations for the Rutland Foodbank. We know that the Foodbank is very busy at the moment, and so the 97 items collected will be gratefully received.

  • We are the champions!

    Tue 24 Sep 2019 M Davis

We are very proud to announce that we have won the RSSP Osprey League Year 5/6 Boys Football tournament! The team were a credit to the school, playing fiercely, but fairly - showing great sportsmanship to each other and to their opposing teams. There were some stunning goals and great tackling, alongside some great teamwork and passing of the ball. We have always taken pride in the children's sportsmanship and sense of fair play - and it was lovely to see them helping opposing team members up when they slipped in the rain, and congratulating opposing teams when they scored, or when they managed to save an attempt at a goal from our team. Their hard work was rewarded with 6 wins out of 6 matches and well deserved trophy. Even more excitingly, this is our first trophy in a sports competition since I have worked at the school (so in at least 13 years)! We have come close a few times, and it shows that practice and hard work pay off! Well done to all involved, to Miss Bevins and Mrs Ranson for supporting the team, and to parents for providing a taxi service to the matches and great support on the sidelines.

  • Year 5/6 Football Osprey Tournament

    Tue 17 Sep 2019 L Bevins

A huge well done to our year 5/6 football team, who this evening represented our school in the Rutland schools’ football tournament.

They played 3 matches in total and won all 3. We were very impressed by their determination, tactics discussions and team work on the pitch. Great communication by everyone and it was brilliant to hear them giving each other tips and calls throughout the matches. The boys all showed brilliant sportsmanship too, congratulating the other team on good goals and rushing to help when a player on the other team was injured.

Miss Bevins and Mrs Ranson were very proud of all the boys, they were a pleasure to be with and a credit to the school - roll on next week!

  • Year 5/6 Bikeability

    Wed 11 Sep 2019 M Davis
Year 5/6 children began their Bikeability training this week with level 1 training on the playground. This important activity allows the children to learn the right skills for cycling safely on the roads. This week they were on the playground practising skills such as signalling and stopping safely, as well as some basic bicycle checks. Over the next few weeks they will set out onto the roads of Exton and eventually go into Oakham to practise cycling round roundabouts and in more busy traffic.
  • Year 6 Residential

    Tue 10 Sep 2019 M Davis

Our Year 6 children had a fantastic time last week on their residential with St Nicholas and Whissendine schools. The children went to Whitehall in Derbyshire, spending three days taking part in a number of outdoor activities, including, rock scrambling, canoeing, mountain biking, high ropes and zip wire to name just a few!

Mr Bates reported that the children from Exton & Greetham school were a credit to the school and their parents and were a pleasure to have with them. Mrs Davis visited on Thursday and enjoyed watching the children face fears and take part in new activities and adventures - she's not sure she'd have been brave enough to go down the zip wire!

It was a great way to start the academic year, and gave the children a chance to put all 6 Rs into practice - making sure they were ready for each activity, behaving responsibly, being respectful, being resourceful when they needed to work something out, being resilient when challenged and reflective at the end of the day.

What a great start to the year!
