Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2023-24.

• Admissions Consultation

  We are required to consult on our admissions every seven years. As we have also recently joined The Rutland Learning Trust, we are consulting on our admissions arrangements for entry into the school from September 2020.

• FOEGS Christmas Fayre

  What a fantastic evening we had last night in the school hall!

   

  The hall was buzzing with lots of children, parents, family and friends, all busy visiting the different stalls. Whether it was the Christmas games of: Guess What's in the Stocking, Find the Snowman's Nose, Where in the world is Santa? or Pin the nose on Rudolf; or the stalls - the tombola, second hand stall, face-painting, cake stall or craft stall - there was something for everyone.

   

  A huge thank you to all those who turned up to run a stall or paint faces, as well as those who helped set up and tidy away. It was a great team effort, and we are very pleased to announce that over £270 was raised - a fantastic achievement for a little school!

• Christmas Performances

  Once again, the school hall was filled with the sound of music, laughter and fantastic acting for out annual Nativity and Pantomime performances. With excellent audiences for both performances, the children were proud to show off what they had achieved.

   

  The nativity - this year entitled 'A Midwife Crisis' - was beautifully performed, with all of the children taking a role. The midwife was very bossy, and it was quite clear that 'no-one ever listens to a donkey!' Poor Steve the donkey! He knew just where to look for the baby, but the Midwife was not listening. Fortunately, all was well in the end. With fantastic solo singing from our Star to the exuberant dancing of the sheep, the performance was memorable for all the right reasons! Well done to all of Aqua and Cobalt classes, and to their teachers and TAs for all their hard work behind the scenes.

   

  'Snow White and the many, many, many dwarves' followed, and the audience was soon joining in with the traditional 'oh yes it is' and booing and hissing the wicked stepmother. There were some great character performances from the cast, engaging the audience from the beginning. There was enthusiastic dancing to songs, and  '5,6,7,8' will live long in many people's memories! Again, the staff behind the scenes worked hard to enable the children to show off their talents. 

   

  Congratulations to both casts for their confident performances. Perhaps we saw a glimpse of some future Oscar or BAFTA winners gracing our stage.....

• Exton T Party

  This year, for the first time, we were invited to provide a 'choir' to entertain the attendees of the Exton T Party in the village hall. Cobalt class rose to the challenge, and after selecting their favourite carols - both traditional and more modern- they set off down to the village hall.

   

  The assembled people were invited to join us in our singing, and there was lusty singing of Hark the Herald, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Away in a Manger and The Virgin Mary before we finished with a rendition of We Wish you a Merry Christmas. 

   

  We really enjoyed joining together with the local community.

• Carols Around the Tree

  The annual 'Carols Around the Tree' event was held in the school hall for the first time this year. There was a good gathering of friends from the community and school families and traditional carols were lustily sung. The advantage of being inside was having a piano accompaniment and therefore Mrs Davis not starting Silent Night too high!

   

  The evening finished with mince pies, tea, coffee and hot chocolate provided by FOEGS. What a fantastic start to our Christmas activities! 

• Basketball Final

  We were really pleased to be able to enter two teams for the Rutland Basketball Tournament at USSC this term. All our year 5 and 6 pupils took part. They displayed some great teamwork, playing with determination and encouraging each other. There was some skilled basketball on display with impressive dribbling, passing and shooting. At one stage both teams were playing matches on adjacent courts and both won! One o four team won their League so were invited back to play for the TOP 8 places last Thursday. Again, they were a credit to the school. They narrowly missed out on a final placing when, after a close match against Brooke Priory School, the result had to be decided on by a penalty shootout. All 8 team members bravely stepped up to take a shot and only missed out on a 'sudden death' basket. They finished an amazing 6th out of 37 teams.

• Singing at Oakhouse Residential Home

  Today nine of our children went on a special visit to Oakhouse Residential Home in Greetham to sing some of their nativity songs to the residents. The children sang beautifully and the residents enjoyed hearing some of the songs from 'A Midwife Crisis'. It is lovely to be able to take some of the Christmas cheer from school out into the community!
