Latest News

Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2023-24.

  • Singing for Royalty!

    Mon 28 Jul 2014 M Davis

HRH Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall visited Rutland today. Rutland Music, the Music Hub for Rutland, were asked to convene a choir of primary school children to sing some of the songs that were sung at the World War 1 Commemoration Event at Kendrew Barracks in June. Mrs Davis was lucky enough to be one of the supervising staff, and three children from Exton and Greetham CE Primary School joined 25 others in creating a choir for the occasion.

The children were a credit to themselves, their parents and the school, singing lustily and tunefully. Some of the choir even got the chance to talk to the Duchess of Cornwall, who was very friendly and asked lots of questions.

Well done to Elijah, Jacob and Katie for some excellent singing by Royal Appointment!

  • Rounders Tournament

    Fri 25 Jul 2014

On Wednesday Mrs KK and Mr Chalkley took ten children to compete in the inter-schools rounders competition. After some fiercely fought games, and some super sportsmanship, the team came 3rd in their group. Well done!

  • Leavers assembly

    Fri 18 Jul 2014
Tissues were needed! Another great production; this year, for the first time, written by our leaving year 6's. This year's play was based on the 'Exton Baftas', and including singing, acting and our leaver's powerpoints. We said goodbye to Cranston, Jack and Sammy, and wish them well as they move on to secondary school. A fond farewell was also said to Mrs Whitehead, including the reading of her 'school report'.
  • School Disco

    Wed 16 Jul 2014
FOEGs will once again co-ordinate the end of term disco 3.30pm - 5pm
  • Burghley House Trip

    Wed 16 Jul 2014

The children had a fantastic time looking round the house itself and learning about its history. Many thanks to the staff of the house who made us so welcome and taught us so much.

We then settled down under the trees for our lunch. After a quick photograph in front of the house, Mr Marks took the children to investigate the 'ha-ha'.

The sculpture garden was a great adventure and everyone enjoyed exploring the different sculptures amongst the trees and sketching them in our sketch books.

The final excitement of the day was a visit to the 'Garden of Surprises' where the children got very wet! There was much fun to be had running in and out of all the fountains and water features and finding out what each different fountain did. After a few running races to try and dry out and Mrs Davis wringing out a few t-shirts, it was back to the coach to sit on towels for the journey home! Fortunately our very nice bus driver didn't seem to mind our wet clothes!

What a wonderful trip! A huge thank you to Mrs Fowler for leading the trip and for all the other staff and adults who went to help.

  • Sports Day 2014

    Mon 14 Jul 2014
What a beautiful day for a Sports Day! The weather is being very kind to us this year!

I have nothing but praise for the children and their sportsmanship. The children were split into 6 mixed age teams, and it was lovely to see older children supporting and encouraging younger children, and younger children cheering for the older children. Round Robin activities included a skipping relay, a traffic light relay, football dribbling, hoopla, hockey dribbling and the infamous obstacle course. After this we had a team relay, followed by the year group sprints. Finally we had a parents/ relatives race where the participants had to run with bean bags balanced on their heads! It was a fiercely fought race! Well done to Conner's dad who won.

The winning team was team 1 with an impressive score of 1700! All the children received a medal for good sportsmanship and they were also rewarded with an ice pop in the afternoon.
  • Fort Henry Walk

    Fri 11 Jul 2014
Well done to all those who made it to Fort Henry and back!

After a cloudy start to the day, the sun decided to shine on us and we were able to set off on our picnic. It was lovely to walk through the barley fields and admire the wildlife around us before stopping for a picnic near Fort Henry.

After eating our picnics we all had enough energy for the walk back. we enjoyed the wildlife again. Mrs Owen laid an arrow and smiley face trail with some children to encourage the stragglers. With a song (or two!) as we arrived back at school, we were all ready for a well deserved rest.

Mr Richardson has kindly made a video montage of photographs from the walk. Please ask at the office for the password to be able to access this.
  • Year 6 Sailing

    Thu 10 Jul 2014
Year 6 had a fantastic morning at their Taster Sailing Session at Rutland Sailing Club. For those who have never experienced sailing, this is an excellent pastime, and the children would highly recommend it!

After squeezing into wet suits the children were given a quick tour of the boats and some instructions on how to keep the boat upright with a sail full of wind. Then they were off! The freedom to be on the water, two to a boat was great and there were only a few who got wet!
  • Community Lunch

    Thu 10 Jul 2014
We were pleased to welcome the local community into the school today for another successful community lunch. Lizzie cooked a delicious fish pie with fresh vegetables, followed by home made pavlova. Everyone agreed that we are very lucky to have such a talented cook who cooks all our meals from fresh every day.

This was the last community lunch of this academic year, and we look forward to welcoming people back to the school hall for our Harvest Community Lunch in September.
