  • Harvest with a Difference!

    Thu 22 Oct 2020 M Davis

Normally our Harvest Festival is the chance for parents to come into school and share some of our learning around the theme of Harvest - this year this has not been possible due to our COVID19 restrictions, so Harvest moved online and became virtual!

This year we continued our annual collection of produce for the Rutland Foodbank. We know that many people are not as lucky as ourselves, and that by collecting tins and packets for the Foodbank we can go a small way towards helping those who are currently unable to put enough food on their family table. A huge thank you to all who contributed this week. Mrs Davis has 10 bags of items to deliver to the Foodbank over the holiday.

In the classrooms, autumn activities took place. Aqua class had a week of autumn and harvest activities, including some beautiful painting and drawing activities focused on leaves. They also recorded a fantastic version of 'Big Red Combine Harvester' to share on ClassDojo. Teal Class were channelling their inner rappers, and learnt the 'Harvest Rap' all about the different foods we have. Meanwhile, in Cobalt class the children talked about sharing the Harvest with others and then learnt a song in two parts to share on Dojo.

FOEGS very kindly provided everyone with a Harvest pumpkin to decorate, as well as delicious cakes to share.

Parents are now able to view our Harvest Festival musical offerings on the main page of ClassDojo. Audio files will be uploaded here in due course.

  • A Virtual Visit for Cobalt Class!

    Fri 16 Oct 2020 L Larratt
This term, Cobalt class have been learning all about the Battle of Britain, with a focus on the Battle of Britain.  After learning all about Hugh Dowding, Radar and the Observation Corps, we were lucky enough to have the chance to speak to WO2 Gould about the modern day equivalent and how this job is carried out today. It was fascinating to find out all about the advancements in technology whilst also discussing the ways the role is still quite similar to that of the Observation Corps created for WW2. The children loved being able to see the Tornado, the helicopters and tanks that he was able to show us and were amazed at the way that radar has developed. Although COVID has meant that we were unable to go on a trip to see the planes in real life, it was brilliant to be able to video call an expert and to still be able to see real vehicles and systems.
