Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2023-24.

  • Leaver's Assembly

    Wed 15 Jul 2015 M Davis

Today was a day of heightened emotions as we shared drama, songs and memories as part of our Leaver's Assembly.

After a rousing round of 'We are from Exton & Greetham School', the Key Stage 2 children performed their play 'I'm a year 6, get me out of here'. The year 6 children were sent to the jungle and had to complete a range of challenges, as well as share their memories. The drama was also interspersed with some super singing.

After the play, Mrs Davis talked about each of the year 6 children and how they had changed since they started at the school. The children were all given a commemorative mug, a year group photograph and a Bible from the church.

After another song, certificates of achievement were handed out to Year 6, and thanks given to all those who give up their time to support the school through volunteering to help listen to readers, support the school through FOEGS, and to staff and governors.

The assembly concluded with the year 6's choice of song 'where do we go from here?'. We saved this until last, as we knew it would make us all emotional!

This year 6 are a very special year group and we are proud of all their achievements. They have worked hard all year and are all ready for secondary school. We wish them all well, and hope that they will keep in touch.

  • Lincoln Castle Trip

    Mon 13 Jul 2015 M Davis

We all had a fantastic time on Monday at Lincoln Castle. The trip concluded a year of talking about castles in Class 1, and allowed us all to learn a little more about local history.

The day consisted of a rotation of 3 workshops. We all had the opportunity to design a shield and attend a banquet. Some children even had a go at being the court jester! The second activity was a historical walk around the walls of the castle. The children enjoyed climbing up to the walls and then climbing back down to visit the dungeons. Lincoln Castle is a Mott and Bailey castle, and is one of only two in the country to have two Motts. The final workshop allowed the children to look at the historical development of armour and learn a few techniques with bows and arrows and swords.

Thank you to Mrs Fowler for her suggestion of a location for this trip, and to Mrs Almond for her great organisational powers!

  • Fort Henry Walk

    Fri 10 Jul 2015 M Davis

Another glorious day of weather meant that our walk to Fort Henry was beautiful! We are very lucky to be in a school so close to open fields and we enjoyed walking through the fields of crops and poppies as we followed the path to Fort Henry.

Everyone was able to walk at their own pace. Mrs KK led the way, while Mrs Davis bought up the rear. It was lovely to be joined by so many parents, including one of our new families for September.

Mrs Wardle met us at Fort Henry with all the packed lunches and we enjoyed sitting under the trees while we enjoyed our picnics. Batteries recharged, it was then time to make our way back.

We are obviously all fitter this year, as we were back at school much quicker and were soon enjoying ice pops in the shade on the playground.

Many thanks to all who joined us on the walk, and enjoyed a well deserved cup of tea on their return. Thank you also to Mrs Wardle for transporting lunches so that we didn't have lots to carry.

  • Year 6 Sailing

    Wed 08 Jul 2015 M Davis

Year 6 went sailing at Rutland Sailing Club as part of their leaving activities.

The weather was perfect - not too hot, and not too cold, with just enough wind!

After paddling their boats round to the shelter of the creek (learning to use the rudder on the way) they were soon off on the water in individual boats. Mrs Davis and Mrs Wingrove were a little jealous as they supervised from the side, as it looking like enormous fun!

The pictures attached were taken on phone cameras, so we apologise for the quality being less than normal.

  • Year 5 STEM Day at CBEC

    Mon 06 Jul 2015 M Davis

Our year 5 were invited to join with year 5 children from other primary schools in and around Rutland at a specially organised STEM day.

The children enjoyed the opportunity to find out more about space through science, maths and technology and came back with lots of ideas. They had also had a lot of fun along the way!

  • Chicks!

    Fri 03 Jul 2015 M Davis

We have again played host to some eggs in the hope of hatching chicks.

By Thursday morning we had successfully hatched 10/11 eggs. One was a little weaker than the others, but with some gentle mothering from Mrs Almond and Mrs Heywood, he was soon in with the other chicks and asserting himself!

The children all enjoyed the opportunity to watch the miraculous way in which the tiny chicks peck their way free of their egg. It is hard to imagine that the fluffy chicks fitted into a small egg just 24 hours previously.

After the weekend we were able to handle the chicks and get to know them a little better.

Some have gone to live with Hannah and Katie's grandma, some went to Polly and Georgie's farm, and some went to one of the nursery parents. We are sure they will all be happy in their new homes.

  • Orienteering

    Thu 02 Jul 2015 M Davis

Year 5/6 enjoyed taking part in the Orienteering competition on Thursday 2nd July.

For the first time, this was held at Sykes Lane. The children all had a fantastic time, working well with partners to navigate their way around two courses. They came back very proud of their achievements!

Many thanks to Mrs Ranson and Mrs Wardle for accompanying the children and for helping marshal the course.
