Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2023-24.

• Year 3/4 Tag Rugby Osprey Triumph!

  Congratulations to the six children who represented year 3/4 in the Rutland Schools Sports Partnership Tag Rugby Osprey competition. We are delighted that their hard work paid off, and that we can announce that we came second in the competition!

   

  Mrs Wardle and Mrs Ranson, who accompanied and led the team, were very impressed with the standard of rugby, the children's teamwork and their commitment. We are proud of all six of you and how well you have done.

• Recorder Festival

  Class 3 (year 4, 5 and 6) attended the Rutland Music Hub Recorder Festival today to share their work learning the recorder this term.

   

  The children were able to play pieces alongside other primary school children in Rutland and also meet the composer of many of the pieces they have been learning, Sarah Watts. The children were accompanied by a small band, and even got to see and hear a sousaphone!

   

  As ever, behaviour was impeccable and both Mrs Almond and Miss Bevins were very impressed with the children in their musical playing.

• Red Nose Day

  Today was a day of fun and laughter! The children came to school in their pyjamas, and staff came dressed in school uniform in return for a small donation for Comic Relief.

   

  The day began with an assembly which reminded the children about some of the work that Comic Relief does in the UK and around the world.

   

  During the morning each class came and created their own 'copper trail'  - there was a prize for the winning class. Back in the classrooms, jokes were exchanged and a winning joke chosen from each class to share in the afternoon's sharing assembly.

   

  After lunch Mrs Jagger had organised a treasure hunt around the school. Older children were paired with the younger children and had to locate 20 different pictures around the school site. There was some great teamwork, and it was lovely to see our older children really caring for the younger ones and helping them.

   

  In assembly at the end of the day jokes were shared, the winners of the treasure hunt were drawn from the post box, and class 3 were declared the winners of the coin trail.

   

  Pre copper-counting a  total of £51.96 was raised. This evening the total copper collection was counted and totalled at £52.04, leading to a grand total of £104. Mrs Davis had promised in assembly to make up the total to the next ten, so our school donation will be £110.

   

  A huge thank you to all who donated, and especially to Mrs Jagger and Miss Bevins for organising the activities.

  

• Class 1 Space Centre Trip

  Class 1 had a fantastic trip to the Space Centre in Leicester to conclude the work they have been doing about space.

   

  During the day they had the opportunity to look around all the exhibits, as well as going into the Planetarium. On their return they were most excited about having watched a rocket blast off!

   

  Thank you to Mrs Jagger for organising the trip, and to Miss Lynch and Mrs Wingrove for accompanying them.

• Mother's Day Lunch

  We welcomed 20 of our mums and grandmas to join us for our school roast dinner on Wednesday in honour of Mothering Sunday this weekend. It was lovely to see the children sitting chatting with their Mums about their day and what they were up to.

   

  Thank you to Lizzie for cooking all the extra lunches.

   

  We would like to wish all Mums a very happy Mothering Sunday, and we hope you are all spoilt rotten!

  

• Year 3/4 Tennis Training

  Some of Year 3 and 4 were able to take part in some tennis training from a proper tennis coach in preparation for the Rutland Schools Tennis Tournament.

   

  6 children worked with the coach to develop their tennis skills and to develop a better understanding of the game and tactics.

   

  The coach was very impressed with all of those who took part and it is looking promising for the competition itself! Watch this space!

• World Book Day

  Our school is made up of many interesting characters, but today we had superheroes, princesses, wizards and witches and even a Mr Man on site! World Book Day was a riot of colour and costume, and even the staff got involved!

   

  The children spent time thinking about their chosen character and the class 1/2 corridor will soon be adorned with work from all of the children relating to their book character.

   

  Thank you to all parents who gathered and made the different costumes and made sure that the children had their book with them to share.

   

  Reading is not only a skill for life, but a way to escape to another world. Whether you prefer fairy tales, mysteries, adventures or fantasy; there is a book for every person's taste.

   

  As Dr Seuss says, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
