Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2023-24.

  • Road Safety Visit

    Tue 28 Nov 2023 M Davis

'Be Bright, Be Seen' was the theme of our assembly from RCC on 28th November. We were visited by the local road safety team to remind all of the children how to keep themselves safe on and near roads during the darker months.

The children were very good at remember the importance of wearing reflective materials. They enjoyed designing their own reflective bike helmets and bags for a competition. Well done to our winners!

  • RLT KS1 Multiskills

    Tue 21 Nov 2023 M Davis

On Tuesday our Year 1 and 2 children attend the RLT Multiskills festival at Cottesmore school. This gave them the opportunity to work through a series of sporting activities alongside other children of the same age within the trust.

Mrs Creed and Mrs Wingrove reported that the children were incredible ambassadors for the school - not only waiting patiently when the bus was late to pick us up, but also taking part with lots of enthusiasm and sharing excellent sportsmanship.

It was lovely to see so many smiling faces on their return, having taken part in lots of new activities.

    Well done to all concerned!

  • Fire Talks

    Mon 13 Nov 2023 M Davis

Our youngest and oldest children had a visit today from the Fire Service to talk to them about Fire Safety.

For the first session, Aqua class learnt about what to do in case of fire, and the importance of 'stop, drop and roll' as well as how to contact the Fire Brigade.

During the second session, our oldest children learnt more about fire safety and keeping themselves safe as they become more independent.

A huge thank you to the Leicestershire and Rutland Fire Service for attending to share this information with the children.

  • Remembrance

    Sat 11 Nov 2023 M Davis

This year Remembrance Day fell on a Saturday. Usually Cobalt Class join with the local community at the War Memorial in Exton, but this year an open invitation was shared for families to come and join with the community, as it was a Saturday.

A number of families joined Mrs Davis, Mrs Larratt, Mrs Almond and Mrs Hodges at the War Memorial. A huge thank you to those who came in their school uniforms to represent the school. Mrs Davis shared some of the poems that Year 5 and 6 had written in response to discussions around pictures of poppies and war graves, and one of our year 5 children laid a poppy posy on behalf of the school.

It was lovely to be able to join in with this village event and to stand alongside veterans and others remembering those who have fought and died in warfare.

  • RLT Cross Country

    Fri 10 Nov 2023 M Davis

The weather was kind to us for the cross country, after some wet weather earlier in the week!

We are very proud of all of the children who chose to take part from Year 3 to Year 6. Mrs Ranson and Mrs Creed reported that everyone put in a brilliant effort and were a credit to the school. Sixteen children took part across the four year groups and all finished smiling and running. Mrs Ranson particularly noticed how the Year 4 boys supported each other, running in pairs for the majority of the course, before sprint finishing!

Well done to all those who ran; and thank you to those parents who helped marshal the course and transport the children.

  • RLT Maths Day

    Fri 03 Nov 2023 M Davis

This year's focus for the RLT Maths Day was 'no pens' - doing maths with no writing implements!

The children had a fantastic time exploring maths using different resources and recording their learning in different ways. The approach inspired lots of discussion and talk around the maths they were doing. Our youngest children in Aqua class explored making and creating 2D shapes with straight edges. Teal Class deepened their understanding of shape exploring the properties of different shapes, including exploring vertices, sides and faces. Year 5/6 in Cobalt class explored problem solving using resources to work out what they needed to do and to find the answers.

All of the children reported having a great time in their maths lessons, and some even reflected that it made it easier to make mistakes, as you didn't have to rub things out or worry about being wrong.

We joined with other RLT schools over Teams in the afternoon to share what we had learnt - it sounds like there were lots of creative maths activities going on in Rutland this week!
