Latest News

Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2025-26.

  • Year 6 Sailing

    Thu 10 Jul 2014
Year 6 had a fantastic morning at their Taster Sailing Session at Rutland Sailing Club. For those who have never experienced sailing, this is an excellent pastime, and the children would highly recommend it!

After squeezing into wet suits the children were given a quick tour of the boats and some instructions on how to keep the boat upright with a sail full of wind. Then they were off! The freedom to be on the water, two to a boat was great and there were only a few who got wet!
  • Community Lunch

    Thu 10 Jul 2014
We were pleased to welcome the local community into the school today for another successful community lunch. Lizzie cooked a delicious fish pie with fresh vegetables, followed by home made pavlova. Everyone agreed that we are very lucky to have such a talented cook who cooks all our meals from fresh every day.

This was the last community lunch of this academic year, and we look forward to welcoming people back to the school hall for our Harvest Community Lunch in September.
  • Farewell to the chicks!

    Fri 20 Jun 2014

We have really enjoyed hatching our chicks this year! For the first year, all 10 eggs successfully hatched, netting us 3 girls and 7 boys. They were keen to be with us, and were all hatched within 48 hours of the first crack appearing in an egg. We all enjoyed talking to them and were able to handle them in the second week they were with us. We are pleased that one family has taken the three girls, and hope to hear when they have laid their first eggs themselves!

  • Wildflower Meadows

    Sun 15 Jun 2014
We have all really enjoyed learning the songs for Wildflower Meadows; the piece of music commissioned by Arts for Rutland for the primary schools of Rutland to sing at the Mobilisation event at Kendrew Barracks.

We were all able to join in singing with some other schools in Rutland in the preceding week at Oakham Chapel, ably conducted by Mr Davis.

Some of us then joined with other children to give up the end of our Sunday Afternoon for the World Premiere performance. The sound was amazing, and it was a great experience.
  • Foeg's meeting

    Tue 10 Jun 2014
The next FOEG's meeting is taking place in the community room at 2.30pm on Tuesday 10th June - all welcome.
  • Kingswood update

    Thu 22 May 2014
The children had a good night's sleep. Everyone is fine, behaving and having lots of fun. Yesterday's activities included: zip wire, swimming, low ropes, crate stacking, team tech and tam challenge. Some did abseiling and our evening entertainment was Mini Olympics, which was pure entertainment! The weather has been fantastic. We did have heavy rain over night, but it's now dry, though a bit chilly. We have just eaten breakfast and we are prepping for our first activity.
  • Rutland Primary School Swimming Gala

    Thu 01 May 2014
Congratulations to all the children who took part in the Swimming Gala this week. After some initial heats against local schools, we were represented in four races at semi-final level and Jacob made it through to the final in both his races. Congratulations to Andrew for 5th place in his heat for the front crawl, narrowly missing out on a place in the semi-final. Elijah made it through to the Year 6 semi-finals for butterfly and breast stroke, eventually coming 8th in the county for butterfly and 12th for breast stroke. Congratulations. Jacob competed in the finals for back crawl and front crawl. He came 6th in the county for front crawl, and narrowly missed out on a medal position, coming 4th, for back crawl. Not only were the boys excellent in the water, but they were a pleasure to be with on the side of the pool.
  • We're 'feeling good'!

    Sun 27 Apr 2014
We're delighted that Exton and Greetham CE Primary School has maintained its "good" ranking and garnered many positive comments following its latest visit from the education watchdog. Inspectors found "The school prepares pupils well as they move through the Early Years, Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2". Inspectors particularly commended "the warm and welcoming atmosphere that values all pupils. Attractive displays, an emphasis on the arts and good use of resources all add to the good teaching observed."

Because the school is small, the children, aged from 4 to 11, learn to mix socially and academically with students outside of their own year group. Indeed the report comments on the youngest children making "good progress in their personal, social and emotional development and learn well from being in a class with pupils from year 1 and 2" and praised the "deeply caring environment and thorough understanding that all adults have of individual children's needs."

We are proud of all the achievements and the work that the children do within the school community and beyond. The report notes, "The school seeks to work with the wider community and is involved in raising funds for the local church and different charities. The school is proud of being the only recipient in Rutland of a national singing award."

We are delighted that Ofsted recognised the many wonderful things that happen at our school. We are a small village school who pride ourselves on our family ethos. The school has been recognised as a good school with well-behaved, hardworking children and supportive staff and governors. As a small school national test results can be affected by individual children, and it is great that the inspectors recognised how we work with every individual to ensure that the all reach their personal potential.
  • Easter Celebrations

    Thu 03 Apr 2014
Our Easter Day started with our Easter Service in Greetham Church. This told the story through the Easter alphabet. Key Stage 2 children led us through the story with clear reading and diction and shared some wonderful art work. Key Stage 1 joined in for some hearty singing. After lunch we had our traditional egg rolling. Congratulations to our winning egg rollers. It was nice that 4 of the 6 winning eggs were 'home laid'; and particularly good that 2 of those were from chicks hatched at school last year! The staff rolled crème eggs. It should be noted that these roll fairly consistently, all credit to the manufacturers! Egg and spoon races followed the egg rolling, and this was followed by our Crème Egg Hunt on the school field. There was some excellent team work with older children helping the younger children. Then there was just enough time to enjoy our Crème Eggs in the sunshine before hometime. One of our school values is 'honesty'. Today has shown what honest children we have. The children also search for Starburst sweets during the Crème Egg Hunt. There were 3 each this year, but we failed to find 5. (These children were topped up from a bag of spares!) During the playtime 3 children each found one of the missing Starburst sweets, and instead of eating their find, brought them to the teachers for safe keeping. Well done.
  • Spotlight Dance

    Thu 27 Mar 2014
Most of our KS2 children took part in our Spotlight Dance this year. 'Kung Fu Fighting' was the theme this year, and we are very grateful for the loan of our costumes. The children really looked the part in their martial arts tops, and Elijah even volunteered to dress up as Kung Fu Panda! The Spotlight Show this year was split into three shorter shows, and we were in the second performance each night. The children danced brilliantly and their behaviour backstage was exemplary. We may have been the only school where some children asked to listen to their teacher reading them a story while waiting for their turn to dance! Many thanks to all those parents who made the effort to transport their children over to Uppingham Theatre for both nights.
