Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2025-26.

  • Cobalt Class Museum Visit

    Fri 28 Nov 2025 M Davis

Cobalt Class had a fab morning learning about the Home Front in Rutland during World War 2 as a way to round off their World War II topic. The children were amazing and showed off all their knowledge about the war, as well as learning more about gas masks, digging for victory and life on the home front. There was also an opportunity to look at some of the other things in the museum.

A huge thank you to the Rutland Museum for hosting us, and to the Friends of Rutland County Museum and Oakham Castle for funding the transport.

  • Aqua Class Village History Walk

    Mon 24 Nov 2025 M Davis

As part of their history and geography work, Aqua class went for a walk around the village, following a map and spotting how Exton has changed. We found the two schools (one of which Mrs Almond went to), the well - where people got their water and we noticed the different brick used in old and new houses. Somewhat confusingly, the house labelled as an old drug store, is actually the old school! The sign was left behind when the village was used as a film set, and has remained ever since!

Back at school they then painted what they believe the village would have looked like.

  • Children in Need

    Fri 14 Nov 2025 M Davis

Despite the rain, we had a fantastic day raising money for Children in Need, organised by our school council.

Games were moved into the hall, and there was a successful cake sale and cake raffle, as well as a non-uniform day.

A huge £171 was raised for the charity.

  • Supporting Anxiety at Home

    Wed 12 Nov 2025 M Davis

This week we hosted an anxiety workshop for parents, led by Sue Parsons, who is working with school across the Rutland Learning Trust to support children's behaviour and social, emotional and mental health needs.
The workshop was a relaxed session where parents could find support in helping their child with any anxieties they may be experiencing and have some time to share, reflect and learn simple strategies to help support their child. Sue truly is a font of knowledge and provided lots of useful help and ideas.

  • Remembrance Day

    Tue 11 Nov 2025 M Davis

On 11th November, Cobalt Class went down to the Exton War Memorial to share in the village Act of Remembrance. This annual event is a great opportunity for the school to join with the local community to remember those who have died in warfare from the surrounding area.

After the reading of the names on the war memorial, children from the school shared poems they had written, before we all took part in a two minute silence. Wreaths and posies were then laid at the bottom of the war memorial.

This year was particularly poignant for our year 5/6 children, as they are currently studying World War II.

Back at school, our younger children took part in their own silence, using the BBC Act of Remembrance film created for younger children as their starting point.
