'Pop-up' Pied Piper Performance
Mon 24 Mar 2025We were very pleased and excited to be invited to take part in the 'Pop-up' Pied Piper Performance in Oakham on Monday 24th March. Whilst the 'Rutland Big Sing' takes place in De Montfort Hall in Leicester next week, a few schools were invited to take part in a smaller scale performance in Oakham Parish Church this week, so that those unable to travel to Leicester were able to hear and see a performance of this work written for Rutland Schools.
Cobalt class did an amazing job, as we were the only school present singing the second part, and audience members reported that it was 'amazing'.
Well done to all involved - and we look forward to our 'Big Sing' in a week's time!

Red Nose Day 2025
Fri 21 Mar 2025Our School council led activities for our fundraising for Red Nose Day.
The children were invited to come in something red, or something silly. There was a sea of red, and some quite amazing outfits, including a clown and an old granny!
There was a cake raffle with a beautiful cake.
The children also submitted jokes for a joke competition. The winning jokes for each class were as follows:
Aqua Class:
Why do you put bulbs in the ground?
So the worms can see where they're going!
Teal Class:What is the difference between a cat and a comma?
One has claws at the end of its paws. The other is a pause at the end of aclause!
Cobalt Class:How many tickles does it take to make a squid laugh?
Ten-tickles! -
Year 5/6 Football League
Fri 21 Mar 2025Well done to our Year 5/6 football team who had another good set of matches at the RLT inter-school competition on Friday 21st March. There was some super defending and some valiant attempts at the goal. Mrs Ranson reported great teamwork. We are currently 9th in the league table - not bad for the smallest school!

World Book Day
Fri 07 Mar 2025World Book Day was celebrated at school on Friday 7th March to allow us to enjoy a full day of activities without being interrupted by swimming!
It was lovely to have so many parents and carers join us for our reading breakfast, sharing books and toast together first thing in the morning.
There were opportunities to share texts all day, and a focus on a 'love of reading'.
In the afternoon there was a reading quiz in the hall. The winning entries to the story competition were also shared. Well done to everyone who entered, and particularly to Joseph, Scarlet, Bertie, Eleanor, Zion and Thea who wrote our winning entries.
The day ended with a book 'lucky dip' as the children left the classroom.

Amazing Portraits
Fri 28 Feb 2025Cobalt Class has been busy exploring portraits in their artwork over the past few weeks. Mrs Larratt and Miss Barker swapped classes so that Miss Barker could share her artistic expertise with Cobalt and Mrs Larratt could share her musical expertise with Teal class.
In Cobalt, the children had the opportunity to explore line, colour and shade and worked to create some amazing self-portraits.
Well done everyone!

E-Safety Day
Tue 11 Feb 2025Tuesday 11th February was E-Safety day, with a focus on protecting ourselves online.
Across the classes, children took part in age appropriate activities that looked at how to keep themselves safe online, and what to do if anything worried them.
In the afternoon KS2 took part in the RLT E-Safety quiz, and were very proud to come second across all the RLT schools. Well done team!

RLT Swimming Gala
Fri 07 Feb 2025Well done to our team of year 5/6 swimmers who took part in the RLT swimming gala this afternoon. Mrs Ranson said that you all did amazingly in your heats and there was some excellent swimming.A bronze medal and a silver medal were won in individual events - what a fantastic achievement from the smallest school in the trust.
We also had success in the mixed really events, with seem helpers from other schools to make up our team numbers. Our Year 5 mixed relay team did very well in their heat, with a friend from Oakham CE to make up the mixed team; and our Year 6 mixed relay team came third, bagging a bronze medal with the help of two lovely volunteers from Langham and Whissendine schools.
One of the lovely things about being part of the Rutland Learning Trust is the support and teamwork shown between schools. This means that larger schools, who may not be able to use everyone who is keen to have a go in their team, are able to lend swimmers to smaller schools, like ours, to make up relay teams.
Thank you Mrs Ranson for giving up your afternoon to accompany the children.

Mrs Doubtfire trip
Thu 06 Feb 2025Thursday was a long day for Cobalt Class!
We had been invited by our friends at Ketton to join them on a trip to London to see 'Mrs Doubtfire' in a West End theatre - too good an opportunity to miss!
We set off from school at around half nine to journey to London. For some children it was equally exciting to be on a coach and see how big London is, as it was to go to the theatre!
The performance itself was amazing, and it was lovely to be able to see inside a historic West End theatre and see how a big production is put together. There were lots of brilliant songs and dances, and we really enjoyed the impressions by the man playing Mrs Doubtfire!
There were lots of 'favourite parts', including: 'the dancing', 'the bit with the hoover', 'the dancing cooks' and 'the I'm so confused song'.
Not only did we have a great time, but audience members in front of us caught Mrs Wingrove as they left to tell her what delightful children we have at our school!
Thank you to Ketton for inviting us!
