Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2025-26.

• Supporting Anxiety at Home

  This week we hosted an anxiety workshop for parents, led by Sue Parsons, who is working with school across the Rutland Learning Trust to support children's behaviour and social, emotional and mental health needs.
  The workshop was a relaxed session where parents could find support in helping their child with any anxieties they may be experiencing and have some time to share, reflect and learn simple strategies to help support their child. Sue truly is a font of knowledge and provided lots of useful help and ideas.

   

• Remembrance Day

  On 11th November, Cobalt Class went down to the Exton War Memorial to share in the village Act of Remembrance. This annual event is a great opportunity for the school to join with the local community to remember those who have died in warfare from the surrounding area. 

   

  After the reading of the names on the war memorial, children from the school shared poems they had written, before we all took part in a two minute silence. Wreaths and posies were then laid at the bottom of the war memorial. 

   

  This year was particularly poignant for our year 5/6 children, as they are currently studying World War II. 

   

  Back at school, our younger children took part in their own silence, using the BBC Act of Remembrance film created for younger children as their starting point. 

   

   

• RLT Cross Country

  Well done to our cross country runners who went to the RLT Cross Country competition at Catmose. Mrs Ranson reported that you all did amazingly well and gave it your best, showing great resilience and stamina. Well done to our year 3 in particular, who were trying cross country for the first time.

• Being a Cyberwise School

  On Monday we had a very informative day with ‘the conversation’ talking about how to be cyberwise. 

   

  They encourage households to follow four rules:

  • Turn off screens an hour before bed
  • Screens belong in living spaces, not sleeping spaces
  • Leave devices at home
  • Most of your day should be spent creating, exploring and playing away from screens

   

  We all have good intentions around our use of smartphones and screens, but it is sometimes the easy option to be on them all the time. During half term make time to talk with your child about their use of screens - and perhaps find time to play outside, do a puzzle or play a board game to enjoy some family time instead.

   

  We had a day of workshops across the school to help the children reflect on how to be Cyberwise. This consisted of a variety of age-appropriate activities, encouraging the children to think about the amount of time they spend on their screens and the effect this may have on them.

   

  This was followed by a very informative workshop for parents on how to support their children at home to stay safe online.

  

• RLT Spelling Bee 2025

  Well done to Felicity, Pippa, Eleanor, Poppy H, Fox and Sebastian who represented their respective year groups in the semi-finals of the 2025 RLT Spelling Bee at the beginning of October. Each semi-final was very closely fought, with a number of year groups going to a 'sudden death' to find the three finalists. We are so proud of how well you all did. We were very pleased to  have two finalists.

   

  Huge congratulations to Poppy and Felicity, who at the final were both declared the top speller for their year group across the whole of the Rutland Learning Trust! From the smallest school, two mighty spellers!

  

• Harvest Festival

  What a fantastic Harvest Festival we had this afternoon in the hall! All of the children did a great job sharing their individual class contributions, and joined in raising the roof with their singing. Aqua class shared some songs around the theme of harvest, Teal class shared some of their pictures and learning in geography, and Cobalt class shared a song about Harvest, before the Faith Council shared information about the Rutland Foodbank. Thank you to all those who have sent in Foodbank donations - this local charity really does provide excellent care for those local to us who are in need. We manage to provide 62 kilos of donations - 1 kilo per child in the school! Well done everyone. 
   

• The Very Hungry Caterpillar

  Aqua class had a great time at 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' performance at Uppingham theatre. With prime, front row seats, there was lots of excitement and lots to look at and see. For some of us, the ride in the minibus was as exciting as the performance itself!

• Exton Primary School Museum!

  Our Year 1 children have been very interested in the pottery that has been discovered in their digging area. After cleaning it up with a paintbrush and examining it with magnifying glasses they decided to make a museum to show off the findings. Mrs Davis was invited to the grand opening. We love their imagination and creativity and the way their learning has moved on and developed.

  

• RLT Football Tournament

  Mrs Ranson reports that our year 5/6 football team had a great day of football on Friday and that they all gave100% effort even at the end when legs were tiring. They supported each other and made a huge improvement throughout the day. Goals were scored and there were some very close matches. As some people hadn't played much competitive football before, this was a huge achievement.
  
  It is lovely to hear that the children demonstrated a balance of competitiveness and determination alongside respect and supportive behaviour both within the team and from our opponents. On two occasions MrsRanson saw opposing players clash in a tackle and both help the other up and check they were OK!
  
  Well done team!

• Year 6 Residential

  Our Year 6 children had a fantastic time on their residential! There were a range of activities for everyone, from axe throwing and rifle shooting, to a walk to Bakewell and camp building in the woods.

   

  The residential provides an excellent opportunity for the children to develop their independent skills and to explore different activities, as well as to develop their social skills and work together as a team.
