Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2025-26.

• Remembrance

  On Remembrance Day, Cobalt Class walked down to the Exton Village War Memorial to take part in the village Act of Remembrance. 

   

  The children stood respectfully whilst the names of the fallen were shared and during the two minute silence, before sharing some of the writing they had done around the idea of Remembrance. A posy was laid by Lola on behalf of the school. 

   

  Back in school, the younger children carried out their own Act of Remembrance in the school hall. Staff were very impressed that they stood quietly and respectfully for two minutes as well. 

   

   

  

• Harvest Festival

  Voices rang out loud and clear in the school hall as we celebrated our Harvest Festival with Harvest songs of thanksgiving. 

   

  This year our theme was giving thanks. Each class provided a short presentation, and Harvest songs, both traditional and modern, were sung.

   

  Aqua Class showcased their learning in PSHE, RE and music by sharing the story of the Little Red Hen, who worked hard to grow wheat to make bread. Her lazy friends soon discover that hard work has its rewards when they discover she won't share her bread with them as they didn't share in the hard work it took to make it!

   

  Teal Class entertained us with another pop song with Harvest words. This year the music came from Queen - 'I want to grow beans' will ring in our ears whenever we hear 'I want to break free' on the radio!

   

  Cobalt Class shared with us words that could be made from the letters of the word HARVEST and what these mean to us at this time of year. 

   

  The Faith Council then talked about the important work of the Rutland Foodbank and thanked all of those who had made donations for this local charity. 

   

  Having sung 'Autumn Days', 'Amani Utupe', 'Harvest Samba', 'Bringing in the Sheaves' and 'Gather up the People, for we are His Harvest', we finished with a rousing rendition of 'Thank your lucky stars'. 

• RLT Cross Country

  On Friday, Mrs Davis and Mrs Ranson accompanied 13 children from across KS2 who volunteered to take part in the RLT Cross Country competition. These are always hard-fought races, and it was lovely to have so many children willing to give it a go.

   

  After a little warm up with Mrs Ranson, and some sage advice about not starting too fast, the races took place on the Catmose College playing fields. Each year group ran chasing a 'hare' to try and help them pace themselves. We were very proud of all the children for digging in and keeping going, even when the going got tough. All of the children completed their race! With placings ranging from 6th to 36th in their respective year group races, we were very proud of all of the children. Not bad going when running against all the other Rutland RLT schools!

• Open Morning

  On Tuesday we opened up the school to prospective parents looking for school places for EYFS in September 2025. It was lovely to be able to show parents round for a 'normal' school day, so that they could see what our school is like in action.

• RLT Year 5/6 Football Tournament

  Friday saw the start of the RLT Football Tournaments for 2024-25.

   

  We have a keen group of year 5/6 footballers this year, who went with Mrs Ranson for the first set of matches. 

   

  Whilst we didn't win, we hadsome great attempts at the goal.

  We lost two matches 1-0 and drew 0-0 in our other two matches.  Mrs Ranson reported that we really held our own and we spent more time in our attacking half in this one afternoon than in any other afternoon of football since we joined the league! We have excellent defenders and also demonstrated how the team can pass the ball, dribble around defenders, run and shoot! Hopefully some goals will come next time1 Well done to all involved!

• RLT Houses of Parliament Trip

  On Wednesday, two of our year 6 children joined with other children from across the RLT to visit the Houses of Parliament to find our more about how the government works, and to see democracy in action.

   

  After a long bus journey, and a chance to spot some of the sights of London from the window, we arrived at the Houses of Parliament in time for our guided tour.

   

  We were able to go to the visitors gallery of the House of Commons and witness some of a debate about housing standards. We also visited the lobby between the House of Commons and the House of Lords, and were even greeted by a Baroness who walked past! During our tour we found out about the different coloured seats in the two Houses, and learnt how a bill passed backwards and forwards between the two Houses until both can agree and it can become a law. 

   

  We also had the opportunity to visit Westminster Hall, where Queen Elizabeth II lay in state before her funeral. We discovered that this hall has been quite important over the centuries, and that Henry VIII used to play tennis in there!

   

  We then took part in a workshop to strengthen our understanding of how a bill becomes a law, before having the opportunity to have a Q&A session with our own MP, Alicia Kearns. 

   

  We had a quick visit to see the Thames, before getting back on the coach to Rutland.

   

  A great time was had by all, and always, the children were amazingly behaved, not only in the Houses of Parliament, but also on the long bus journeys either way.

   

   

  

• Welcome back to the New Academic Year!

  We started the new school year with 67 pupils on roll, across three classes. We are pleased to welcome all of our new starters to the school, and to welcome back Miss Barker after her maternity leave.

   

  It is looking to be an exciting year, with lots of opportunities, trips and activities planned. Watch this space!

• Year 6 Leavers' Assembly

  Our Year 6 Leavers' Assembly is always a time of mixed emotions. Whilst we are sad to see the children leave, we know that they are all ready for their next adventure in education as they move on to secondary school. 

   

  As always, our Leavers' Assembly allows the children to share their favourite songs from Collective Worship. This year included favourites from Easter (Easter Jubilation, Lord of the Dance) and Christmas (Sheep, Sheep, Sheep), as well as Give me oil in my lamp 'Exton-style', and a Gospel medley. They certainly raised the roof with their fantastic singing!

   

  Interspersed with the songs were opportunities for the year 6 to share their memories (this year in the style of the game 'Guess Who?'); receive their Bibles from the churches; hear the teacher's memories; and say their goodbyes. 

   

  Thank you to all who joined us in a very warm hall for the afternoon. It was an amazing send-off, and we look forward to hearing what these amazing children go on to achieve over the next few years.

• Art Day 2024

  The final week of term started with a day of art - based on the National Gallery 'Take One Picture' activities. 

   

  This year the picture was 'The Courtyard of a House in Delft' by Pieter de Hooch, painted in 1658. 

   

  The morning was spent exploring ideas around art and looking closely at different artwork to explore techniques and picture composition. In the afternoon, each class then worked to create their own artwork inspired by the Pieter de Hooch picture. 

   

  Aqua class focussed on brickwork and recreating the objects within the picture, Cobalt class looked at costume and the clothing worn at the time, and Teal class focussed on the archway and what could be seen through an arch. The resulting artwork will be put up over the summer and displayed in the Exton Art Gallery. Do come and have a look in the hall in September!

• Aqua Class Belton House Trip

  Aqua class had a super time visiting Belton House alongside children from St Nicholas on Friday as part of our RLT trust linked days.

   

  The children enjoyed the opportunity to explore the grounds of the house, and look at the brickwork and exterior of the building. As one of the children said 'why would you need so many bedrooms?'!

   

  After a picnic lunch, the children then had the opportunity to explore the adventure playground and try out their climbing skills. There were lots of children trying new activities, as well as making new friends from the other school. 

   

  A good time was had by all!
