Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2025-26.

• Year 5/6 Football

  After school on Tuesday 18th September, our year 5/6 football team set off to play their first matches of the season at Uppingham Community College as part of the Osprey League. 

   

  Under the tutelage of Miss Bevins and Mrs Ranson, the team got off to a fantastic start in the league. They played together well and won their first game 2-0! After a break (when the team decided to play football!) they had their second game, which they again won - this time 3-1. What a fantastic start!

   

  A huge thank you to Miss Bevins and Mrs Ranson for accompanying the team and to the parents for their support in transporting the children to and from Uppingham. 

   

  This looks to be the start of a great tournament!

  

• Crime Day!

  On Monday 17th September we had a fantastic 'wow' day!

   

  A crime had been committed at school over the weekend and the hall laptop had gone missing. There were three suspects, and lots of clues, and it was the children's job to work out who the culprit was. 

   

  Each class had time to investigate the crime scene and collect clues, before developing their investigative skills to look at finger prints, shoe prints, handwriting and chromatography.

   

  Meanwhile, back in the classrooms, wanted posters were created and newspaper reports were written about what had happened. Some of these will be added to the website here - watch this space!

   

  Finally, at the end of the school day, we all gathered in the school hall, to name our lead suspect and reveal the culprit. Despite Miss Bevins having borrowed Mrs Davis' keys over the weekend, there were no clues relating to her, and so she was soon ruled out. Was it Miss Lynch or Miss Bell? Finger prints pointed to Miss Lynch and footprints to Miss Bell. CCTV was bought in to help, and the culprit was finally revealed as... Miss Lynch! However, it was obvious that she had been sleepwalking, and the ripped note, when accompanied by the CCTV, was soon found to show that she had put the laptop in the cupboard for safe keeping. She had forgotten as she had been asleep! A quick search found the missing item to the relief of everyone, and particularly Miss Lynch, who was let off with a warning and advice not to work so hard!

• Silver School Games Mark 2017-18

  We are delighted that we have again achieved the School Games Silver Mark Award for the 2017-18 academic year. 

   

  The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

   

  As a small school, we are proud that every child in KS2 has had the opportunity to take part in competitive sport this year - every child has the opportunity to represent the school in many different sports including swimming, golf, TAG rugby, basketball and many more sports. KS1 have taken part in all events that have been available to them. We are extremely proud of all of our children, not only for what they achieve, but also for the level of sportsmanship that they display at competitions and sporting events.

   

  As part of our application we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded again this year.

   

  A special thanks to Mrs Ranson for filling in all of the paperwork for the award, and for taking the lead  at so many sporting events. 

   

  We look forward to applying again in  2019!

  

• Sports Day 2018

  What a fantastic morning we had!

   

  It was lovely to have  so many parents come and support their children at Sports Day this morning. We started with a round robin of team activities including skipping, bean bag throwing, running, hockey dribbling and an obstacle race. There was lots of encouragement from the children to each other in each event and it was lovely to hear words of support from older to younger children and from younger to older children.

   

  After the team activities it was time for the running races. We started with the team relays, then quickly went into our year group running races. Nursery joined us for their running race, and then we had a toddler race for any other younger children who were there. Finally we had our, now traditional, parents race with bean bags on heads!

   

  Thank you to Sheila and FOEGS for providing teas and coffees, and to the staff for helping the day run so smoothly.

  

• RLT KS1 Athletics Festival

  Years 1 and 2 had a lovely time at the RLT KS1 Athletics Festival on Wednesday. It was a beautiful day, and fortunately not too hot!

   

  The children were all very patient when waiting for their turn, and took part enthusiastically in all the activities. Field events included throwing a tennis ball, a standing jump and beanbags into hoops; whilst track events included a sprint, an egg and spoon race, an obstacle race and a beanbag race.

   

  We were very impressed with how well all of our children did and how well they interacted with each other and with children from other schools.

   

  Well done to all concerned, and thank you to Miss Barker, Mrs Wingrove and Miss Lynch for accompanying the children.

  

• Fort Henry

  The sun was shining and the birds were in the sky - Exton & Greetham Primary School children were ready to step out into the sunshine on our traditional walk to Fort Henry on Exton estate!

   

  Packed lunches were stacked in the car, sun cream was applied, hats were put on, water bottles were collected - we were ready to set off. The walk to Fort Henry is always a lovely walk. We take our time - a member of staff marks the front of the walk and another brings up the rear to make sure there are no stragglers: all other adults spread themselves through the walking party. Other than this, the children can walk with whoever they like.

   

  It was lovely to see some of our older children helping the younger children, and our more confident walkers helping those who were not so confident. Mrs Davis was particularly impressed with the reception child who joined her to lead the way all the way there and then walked with Miss Bevins to lead the way all the way back - fab walking! The fields were beautiful with corn growing on either side of the path. Crickets were in abundance and birds were flying overhead. Perhaps the most magical nature moment was for those who spotted a Red Kite hovering and come down onto the road near where we were picnicking. Mrs Davis wasn't quick enough with the camera, but it was an amazing sight.

   

  In our quickest time yet, we arrived at our picnic field - beating the picnics by ten minutes! Then it was time for lunch and a quick play before setting off back. The way back is always a little slower as legs start to get tired, but again, it was lovely to see children encouraging each other to keep going until we all arrived back in school for a well deserved cup of squash and a rest in the shade of the classrooms. 

   

  The Fort Henry Walk really brings out what is so special about our school. We walk together as one large family, with everyone looking after everyone else. Words of encouragement are shared, not just from adult to child and older child to younger child; but also from our youngest children to our older children. Conversations are had, and new friendships made across the year groups. It was lovely to be joined by some of our parents and governors too. 

   

  We are already looking forward to next year - some of the year 5 were talking about how next year would be their last walk with the school, and that they would miss it. It was great that it didn't rain this year, but we are hoping for slightly cooler weather for walking next year!!

   

   

  

• Orienteering

  Class 3 had a fantastic time orienteering on Thursday.

   

  The children worked hard as a team to read the maps and locate all the different markers. There was some amazing co-operation and lots of use of the 6 Rs.

   

  Well done to all for being so independent!

• RLT Music Festival

  The sun was shining - definitely the weather for a music festival!

   

  On Friday afternoon Class 3 joined other children from RLT schools for the third annual RLT music festival - this year held at Cottesmore School. The festival began with some folk music performed for all the schools on the main stage, before activities commenced. 

   

  The schools were split into two teams - red and blue. Red performed first on the main stage, each school performing two songs, whilst the blue team had a chance to join any of the activities on offer around the field. There were army vehicles to explore, an assault course, face painting, African Drumming, Ukuleles, Circus Skills, Penalty shoot out and dance workshops! The children were free to join any activity that caught their interest and it was a great opportunity to get to know children from other schools as well as learn some new skills.

   

  Exton & Greetham were in the blue team and were in the second group of schools performing on the main stage. Miss Bevins had rehearsed the children well and they sang brilliantly, performing some fantastic dance moves in their second song!

   

  The afternoon finished with a performance by the Cottesmore Military Wives choir who performed three of their songs for us.

   

  A huge thank you to Cottesmore School for hosting, to all the workshop leaders for sharing their skills, to all the other schools for entertaining us with their songs and to all those involved in the organisation. It was a very hot afternoon, and we are particularly grateful to the parents association at Cottesmore School for providing all of the children with ice pops. 

   

  A good time was had by all!

  

• RLT Athletics Festival

  What a fantastic day KS2 had yesterday at the RLT Athletics Festival at Corby Stadium. The sun was shining and a good time was had by all!

   

  Everyone gave their best both in terms of participating in track races and field events, and in supporting each other and those from other schools as they participated. I was very proud of the children for cheering on all those participating, not just those from Exton & Greetham. What great sportsmanship!

   

  We had some fantastic achievements with everyone giving different events ago, and many getting through to the finals.

   

  Thank you to Mrs Ranson, Miss Bevins and Mrs Wingrove for accompanying the children and for being good sports - taking part in the staff race!

  

• Class 3 Tri-Golf

  Class 3 enjoyed the beautiful weather on Friday morning at the Tri-golf festival! All of the children were able to go and take part and develop their golf skills through a variety of activities. The children all did their best and we definitely have some budding golfers in the class!
