Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2025-26.

• Year 6 Leavers' Assembly

  On Thursday 16th July we met in the school hall to share our Year 6 Leavers' Assembly. We were joined by family and friends as year 6 took time to reflect on the time they had had here at Exton & Greetham, and then Mrs Davis shared staff memories of the children and reflected on each child's growth through the school. Members of the church community joined us to present the children with a Bible as they leave to go on to their secondary schools. 

   

  One of the favourite staff activities linked to our leavers assembly is the opportunity to look back through photos from the children's time in school to create each child an individual photo frame with pictures from across their time in the school. We hope that these enable the children to look back on their time with fondness.

   

  Remember - once a part of the Exton & Greetham family, you remain part of the school family. Do keep us in touch with how you are getting on at secondary school. 

• Fort Henry Walk 2026

  After postponing our annual walk from one of the hottest days of the year, we eventually managed to set off to Fort Henry early on Tuesday morning. This annual event is a favourite for both students and staff, enabling us to walk in fellowship together and enjoy the beautiful countryside around us. 

   

  With Mrs Larratt at the front and Mrs Davis at the back, the children are welcome to walk in between with friends from across the school, chatting and looking at the nature around us. Thank you to those parents and families who were able to join us, despite the change of day. We arrived back in time for lunch and before the weather got too hot again!

• French Day

  On Thursday 9th July the children had a great day exploring activities linked to nations that speak French and making links between those and the World Cup!

   

  One of the joys of a small school is being able to put the children in cross-phase groups and enable our younger children to be supported by older children in activities. There were opportunities to explore the Eiffel Tower and create their own versions; to explore French food in our French Cafe, and to explore the game of Boules outside with Mrs Ranson. In the afternoon the children returned to their classes to explore art from French speaking countries.

   

  A huge thank you to Mrs Honorez for planning and organising our bi-annual French day!

   

• Sports Day

  Despite the heat, we had another fantastic sports day this year. 

   

  As ever, we started with a 'round robin' of team activities, enabling every child to give new skills a go, and earn points for their team. From skipping to running, football to hoopla and hockey to the obstacle course, there was something for everyone! There was great sportsmanship and encouragement for each other as the children moved through the activities. 

   

  After the team activities, we took advantage of the track being in the shade to hold year group running races. There was, again, great support for each other. Nursery joined us for a toddlers race, followed by our, now traditional, parents with beanbags on their heads race!

   

  Congratulations to our winning team, and grateful thanks to Mrs Almond for totting up the scores. It was lovely to have so many parents and family members who were able to join us for the event and provide additional support. Thank you to FOEGS for providing ice poles at the end - a welcome cooling down in the heat!

  

• Spirituality Day

  On Tuesday 7th July we spent the day exploring spirituality through art. 

   

  Spirituality is always a difficult thing to explain to children! It I important that the realise that spirituality is beyond religion, and is about the way we look at the world. At Exton, spirituality is about developing a 'relational consciousness' - relating to self, others, the world, and the other/ God. It is encouraging children to:

  • delight in all things
  • be absorbed in the present moment
  • not be too attached to self
  • be eager to explore boundaries of beyond
  • search for meaning 
  • discover purpose

   

  We explore spirituality through the ideas of encounter (learning about life, providing for spiritual development through an exploration of identity and personal values), reflection (learning from life, understanding an inner meaning  of self and identity through critical reasoning and big questions), and transformation (learning to love life and responding as a means of expressing an idea of self, developing a personal set of beliefs). 

   

  Throughout the day, each class explored spirituality through the works of artists - one artist for each class. Aqua class looked at the work of Yayoi Kusama; Teal Class looked at the work of Banksy; and Cobalt class looked at the work of Antony Gormley. Through each of these artists the children were guided to create their own pieces of artwork and reflect on what they noticed in the work of each artist, how it made them feel, what this art meant to them and how the art might change them. This led to bigger questions, with Aqua class exploring 'what makes me shine?' Teal class exploring 'what is worth standing up for?' and Cobalt class exploring 'what will you leave behind?'

   

  It was a great day, and good to know that spirituality is also being explored in other trust schools in a similar way. I wonder what different conclusions each school came to about what spirituality means to them?

• Welcoming our New Starters!

  It was great to be able to welcome our new starters for September on Tuesday 23rd June and Wednesday 1st July. These two half days give everyone a chance to practise being in their new class for September, and for those changing teacher, to meet their new teacher. 

   

  Next year our three classes will be: EYFS, Year 1 and 2 all together in Aqua class; Year 3 and 4 together in Teal class; and Year 5 and 6 together in Cobalt class. We are very excited to be able to take continuous provision through into year 2 next year, as we know the benefits this brings to children's learning and independent skills. 

   

  The children all had a great time in their new classes, getting used to the new dynamics and settling in to their new groupings. 

   

  We also welcomed Mrs Roberts back to the school, as she will be taking over teaching year 5/6 when Mrs Larratt leaves at the end of the year.
