African Drumming
Fri 17 Jan 2020On Friday morning, Cobalt Class spent the morning developing their musical skills through an African Drumming workshop, led by Keba from Rutland Music. It is always a pleasure to welcome Keba into school! His boundless enthusiasm for African drumming and skill in sharing this with the children is amazing.
The children had the opportunity to play a variety of different African drums, developing different rhythmic patterns and building these together to create some fantastic music.
We look forward to welcoming Keba back again another year to share his knowledge with some more children.

RE Day - What is belief?
Tue 14 Jan 2020On Tuesday the whole school spent the day exploring the idea of belief in a series of different activities. The big questions was: 'What does it mean to have a belief?'
The day started with a whole school assembly where we talked about different world faith's and began to explore what belief is. We were also reminded that belief is personal, and that throughout the day we would need to respect the differing beliefs of others.
The children then spent an hour in each classroom exploring differing ideas around the theme.
In Aqua Classroom there were a variety of activities linked to exploring what belief or faith meant to the children. The children heard some of the words of Greta Thunberg, who believes that everyone can make a difference in the world. This led to activities including: an exploration of what we could change in the world; a 'tree of hope' where the children could write their thoughts, hopes or prayers; using resources to create a beautiful world, reflecting on travelling through life; and thinking about people who might need our thoughts.
In Teal Classroom the children explored belief through art work, reviewing other people's ideas about belief through art and then using these as a stimulus to create their own artwork entitled 'What is belief?'
In Cobalt Classroom the children were exploring what we can learn from different faiths. They heard three stories from different faiths with a shared theme(the importance of sharing and not being greedy). The children worked together to identify the shared theme and then discuss what it meant to each faith and to them. It led to discussions about different faiths, or people with differing beliefs having shared values, and that we can share a value without having the same belief.
At the end of the day the children came together to talk about what they had found out and to reflect on how belief is important to so many people, but that these beliefs may differ.

Rutland Radio Hero of the Week!
Fri 20 Dec 2019This morning it was announced on Rutland Radio that one of our Year 6 pupils had been chosen as 'Rutland Radio Hero of the Week'. Nicholas does a lot of work in the local community helping out those who need help in any way. Last year he shovelled snow and helped people who were struggling in the snow, and this year he has been collecting items to support the Rutland Foodbank to ensure that people have everything they need over the Christmas period. This is all his own idea.
It was lovely to listen to him chatting with Rob Persani and saying how he felt that the most important part of Christmas is giving and seeing the happy faces of others.
Well done Nicholas!

Pantomime Performance
Fri 20 Dec 2019This week saw Cobalt class perform their annual pantomime, penned especially for them by staff. This year our subject was 'Robin Hood and his Merry Men (and women)!'
All of the children gave outstanding performances (Oh yes they did!), and we have found some great pantomime talent in ad libbing funny lines... Mrs Davis may give up writing pantomimes!
This year was also a feast of music and dance with music from Oliver!, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and the traditional Muppet song. Dances accompanied each song - and a special mention must go to the children's performance of Tragedy!
Well done to all concerned, and especially Miss Bevins for directing and Mrs Honan for standing in at the last moment to play Friar Tuck!

Nativity Performance
Thu 19 Dec 2019Aqua class and Teal class produced two fantastic performances of this year's nativity 'Baubles!'. This year the nativity story was told through the eyes of a class of children admiring Christmas tree baubles with each of the nativity characters on.
Every child shone, and there were some amazing performances from all of the cast. The singing was lusty and the dancing was enthusiastic - a great way to remember the real story of Christmas!

FOEGS Christmas Fayre
Thu 12 Dec 2019On Thursday it was our, now annual, FOEGS Christmas Fayre. There were plenty of stalls to look at and activities to take part in - the school hall was soon very crowded! On the stage there was face-painting and temporary Christmas tattoos. In the hall there were then a variety of games, including 'pin the nose on Rudolf', 'where in the world is Santa?', 'guess what's in the stockings' and 'find the snowman's nose'. The tombola stall was very popular, and the second hand stall did a roaring trade. We were quite amazed at the many delicious cakes made by parents and staff for the cake stall - these were very popular too! After school club ran a craft stall and there was also a raffle.
A huge thank you to Sheila Kohring for her organisation and support and to all the parents and grandparents who came and ran stalls on the day. Just over £235 was raised for FOEGS funds.

Oak House Singing
Wed 11 Dec 2019On Wednesday morning 8 children from Aqua and Teal classes went to Oak House Residential Home in Greetham to share some of their nativity songs with the residents. The children sang beautifully and really helped bring the Christmas story to life alongside a little narration from Mrs Gould. The residents enjoyed the singing and the children were given lots of applause.
Thank you to Oak House for inviting us!

Singing for T on Tuesday
Tue 10 Dec 2019Cobalt class visited the village hall on Tuesday for the village T on Tuesday Christmas meal, and sang a selection of carols. Despite last minute changes, they sang beautifully and were a credit to the school with their behaviour. Their rendition of We Wish You a Merry Christmas (sung with gusto!) went down and treat and the children enjoyed having the opportunity to sing to members of the community. -
Boccia and Kurling Festival
Tue 10 Dec 2019On 10th December 5 children took part in the RSSP Boccia and Kurling Festival. This was an opportunity to go and find out more and have a go at these two sports.
The children took turns to learn about how to use Kurling stones and roll them to aim for target lines. After that they learnt about Boccia throwing, the rules of Boccia and how to develop correct body positions. There was then the opportunity for the schools to take part in some mini tournaments for both Kurling and Boccia.
Miss Lynch accompanied the children and reports that the children were an absolute credit to the school and their parents. They were impeccably behaved, had lots of fun and are keen to be part of any future competitions!

Whole School Pantomime Trip
Wed 04 Dec 2019On Wednesday 4th December the whole school went on our annual visit to Nottingham Theatre Royal to see their pantomime. This year it was Cinderella, starring Sooty and Sweep, Les Dennis and Gareth Gates.
The children enjoyed all of the special effects, especially the flying carriage which came out into the audience towards where we were sitting in the balcony. The music was amazing and the jokes kept us all laughing!
It was great to be able to see the pantomime before our own pantomime performance this year, as it gave us the opportunity to think about how the actors reacted to, and interacted with, the audience. Cobalt class certainly took away a lot of ideas!
A huge thank you to Sensetec and Dalby Electrics who paid for everyone to have an ice-cream in the interval.
A good time was had by all!
