Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2025-26.

• FOEGS Christmas Fayre

  On Thursday it was our, now annual, FOEGS Christmas Fayre. There were plenty of stalls to look at and activities to take part in - the school hall was soon very crowded! On the stage there was face-painting and temporary Christmas tattoos. In the hall there were then a variety of games, including 'pin the nose on Rudolf',  'where in the world is Santa?', 'guess what's in the stockings' and 'find the snowman's nose'. The tombola stall was very popular, and the second hand stall did a roaring trade. We were quite amazed at the many delicious cakes made by parents and staff for the cake stall - these were very popular too! After school club ran a craft stall and there was also a raffle. 

   

  A huge thank you to Sheila Kohring for her organisation and support and to all the parents and grandparents who came and ran stalls on the day. Just over £235 was raised for FOEGS funds.

• Oak House Singing

  On Wednesday morning 8 children from Aqua and Teal classes went to Oak House Residential Home in Greetham to share some of their nativity songs with the residents. The children sang beautifully and really helped bring the Christmas story to life alongside a little narration from Mrs Gould. The residents enjoyed the singing and the children were given lots of applause.

• Singing for T on Tuesday

  Cobalt class visited the village hall on Tuesday for the village T on Tuesday Christmas meal, and sang a selection of carols. Despite last minute changes, they sang beautifully and were a credit to the school with their behaviour. Their rendition of We Wish You a Merry Christmas (sung with gusto!) went down and treat and the children enjoyed having the opportunity to sing to members of the community.

• Boccia and Kurling Festival

  On 10th December 5 children took part in the RSSP Boccia and Kurling Festival. This was an opportunity to go and find out more and have a go at these two sports. 

   

  The children took turns to learn about how to use Kurling stones and roll them to aim for target lines. After that they learnt about Boccia throwing, the rules of Boccia and how to develop correct body positions. There was then the opportunity for the schools to take part in some mini tournaments for both Kurling and Boccia. 

   

  Miss Lynch accompanied the children and reports that the children were an absolute credit to the school and their parents. They were impeccably behaved, had lots of fun and are keen to be part of any future competitions!

   

   

• Whole School Pantomime Trip

  On Wednesday 4th December the whole school went on our annual visit to Nottingham Theatre Royal to see their pantomime. This year it was Cinderella, starring Sooty and Sweep, Les Dennis and Gareth Gates. 

   

  The children enjoyed all of the special effects, especially the flying carriage which came out into the audience towards where we were sitting in the balcony. The music was amazing and the jokes kept us all laughing!

   

  It was great to be able to see the pantomime before our own pantomime performance this year, as it gave us the opportunity to think about how the actors reacted to, and interacted with, the audience. Cobalt class certainly took away a lot of ideas!

   

  A huge thank you to Sensetec and Dalby Electrics who paid for everyone to have an ice-cream in the interval. 

   

  A good time was had by all!

• EYFS Balance Bikes

  Our EYFS children have spent time on Tuesday mornings during November developing their cycling skills on Balance Bikes. All of the children worked very hard to improve their balance and carry out various skills under instructors from RCC. The instructors said what a fantastic group they were.

• Year 5/6 Basketball

  On Thursday our Year 5/6 children went to take part in the RSSP Basketball competition. 

   

  They played 8 games in total, including some against each other! Miss Lynch reports that the children were all fantastic and made the staff that accompanied them so proud. Their stamina, resilience and teamwork were amazing, and she particularly commented on the way that they supported each other. Well done to all concerned for your hard work!

  

• Parent Workshops

• Act of Remembrance

  On Monday 11th November, Cobalt class walked down to the Exton War Memorial to take part in the Exton Act of Remembrance at 11am. Each year, children from the school join with those in the local community to remember not only those named on the War Memorial in the village, but also those who have fought in any conflict, past or present across the world. As ever, the children showed enormous respect. Year 6 shared poems they had written in response to the theme of remembrance, and a posy of poppies was laid on behalf of the school.

• Pied Piper!

   For those who did not make it to Leicester, below is a link for the 'live recording' of Pied Piper. With over 500 pupils from across Rutland taking part, the final performance was something very special. We hope you enjoy listening to it!
