Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo
Thu 15 Oct 2026On Thursday, Cobalt class joined with children from primary schools across Rutland to make a very special recording of Horowitz's 'Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo' and Benjamin Britten's 'Psalm 150'. It is 100 years since Horowitz was born, and 50 years since the death of Benjamin Britten and so it was fitting for these two composers to be chosen by Music in Lyddington for bringing primary school voices together in song.
Led by Peter Davis and a band of professional musicians, around 350 children raised their voices in song to tell the story of Noah, alongside a professional singer. It was a busy day, with lots of notes to learn and, I am told by one of our pupils, 93 'two's to be sung! (The animals came in two by two....)
The children were a credit to the school as always, listening carefully and joining in with gusto.

RLT Languages Day
Tue 13 Oct 2026Some of our year 6 children had a fantastic day at the RLT Languages day exploring language and its origins. The children started by doing some maths using Latin numbers, then reading some funny texts about etymology (the origins of words) and taking part in a quiz. They did some code-cracking using the Greek alphabet, played a game matching numbers in 8 different languages (noting the similarities in the romance languages) and then traced back to the Romans. They then created their own ‘wax tablets’ decorated with mosaics and inscribed their names or greetings in Latin on them. In addition, some of the children brought books or games from home in different languages – it was great to see them confident enough to share. Victoria even read part of a story to us all in Slovakian! It was definitely a busy and fun-packed day!

RLT Cross Country
Sat 10 Oct 2026What a fantastic group of cross country runners we had at the RLT Cross Country competition on Thursday! Mrs Ranson reports that we had an excellent cross country team. They all kept going and ran the whole distance, some looked like they could even have kept on going for longer! Others said they felt really happy finishing - both because it was finished and because they were proud of themselves. We are all very was proud of them too. They were all enthusiastic supporters and shouted encouragement to each other. Charlotte even stopped to cheer-up a little girl from another school near her who she noticed was crying on the last lap (Mrs Ranson could see she stopped and wondered why she was chatting to someone when she had been running so steadily). She still managed to come in 7th and smiley! What great sportsmanship!

Harvest Festival
Fri 09 Oct 2026What a fantastic Harvest Festival we had on Friday 9th October!
It was lovely to welcome so many parents and family members to the school hall to celebrate Harvest alongside the children. We enjoyed a 'song sandwich' celebration, with the children raising the roof with some great Harvest songs, inter-spliced with a presentation from each class on the theme of Harvest. Aqua class shared some harvest songs and rhymes; Teal class shared a Harvest version of an Ed Sheeran song, and some beautiful pieces of their own writing about Harvest; whilst Cobalt class shared the journey of wheat and some of the many things that are made from our harvest.
As part of our Harvest Festival we always collect for the Rutland Foodbank. Last year we managed 1kg of donations for every child in the school. This year we have surpassed this thanks to the generosity of our families. Thank you so much for supporting this local charity.
