Read below to find out more about some of the different activities we have been getting up to; from sporting and musical activities, to visitors and 'wow' days. We are looking forward to helping our children 'explore and grow' further in 2025-26.

• Children with Initiative!

  It is lovely when the children show initiative!

   

  I received a very polite, typed letter from 'the class 2 and 3 football boys' asking if they could have some new goal posts. The old ones, whilst still standing, are becoming a little rickety and are very much on their last legs. Not only was the request polite, but they had also thought through the way to Mrs Davis' heart and there were plenty of reasons why new goal posts would be of benefit to the whole school, including that the older children would be able to use new goals to help teach the younger ones how to play football. Not only that but they will be able to develop some of our school values by showing each other respect and helping each other.

   

  With such a persuasive letter, I could not refuse! The children were given a reply, a budget, a catalogue and an order form. With a little support from Miss Lynch they selected their chosen posts, and we are awaiting their arrival; hopefully in time for the FOEGS Taskforce to put them together. 

  

• Year 3/4 Multisports

  Today our year 3/4 children went to take part in the Rutland Multisports festival in Uppingham. The children were a credit to themselves, the school and their parents, all trying their best and working well as a team. Mrs Ranson and Mrs Wardle were very impressed!

  

• County Cross Country

  Well done to all of our children who took part in the County Cross Country at Sykes Lane. We were very proud to have 58% of our Key Stage 2 taking part. What a fantastic statistic!

   

  Every child tried their best, pacing themselves well, and persevering right to the end. You all crossed the finish lines running and with your heads held high. Well done.

   

  A particular well done to Declan, for coming first in the Year 3 Boys race. 

  

• Harvest Festival

  It was lovely to have so many parents and grandparents join us in the school hall for our Harvest Festival Celebration on Friday afternoon. As well as fabulous singing (as always) it was great to have all the children standing up and adding their own work via their class contributions.

   

  Class 1 showed off their singing skills in our songs about farms and harvest. Sung to well-known tunes, with some enthusiastic actions, our youngest children were all keen to show the rest of the school and our visitors what we had been learning. 

   

  Class 2 livened up proceedings with their 'Harvest Rap' and some funky moves!

   

  Class 3 provided the more thoughtful part of our celebration with some prayers based on words found within the word HARVEST such as 'share' and 'have'. They also explained the work of the Foodbank, both in Rutland and further afield, in supporting those who are less fortunate than ourselves. 

   

  The Harvest Festival finished with the Harvest Rock and Roll - and some even went out still singing!

   

  Thank you to all those that were able to attend, and to all those who have contributed towards the Rutland Foodbank. 

• Year 3/4 Football Tournament

  A huge congratulations to the year 3/4 children who represented the school at the RSSP Football tournament. Miss Bevins said that you were all fantastic - not only playing well, but also showing good teamwork and good sportsmanship.

   

  With one game won, and one game lost, we are through to the final in November. Our resident staff football expert will be doing some extra training at lunchtimes to hone skills in the next month or so,  so that we can show what we are made of in November.

• Year 2 RLT Art Day

  Year 2 went on an artistic adventure on Tuesday with all of the year 2 children from the other RLT schools. What a great day!

   

  Hosted at Langham school, the children took part in a number of activities  and were able to explore their artistic skills in different areas and to work alongside others to create their own works of art.

   

  A huge thank you to Mrs Rowland for organising the event. We look forward to taking other year groups to join with the RLT schools for some other activities during the year.

   

   

  

• Wall Hanging

  Mrs Ford popped in yesterday to bring our completed wall hangings made through our art project in the Summer term. The first one is up, and looks beautiful (photographs attached). This incorporates our Christian Values and the 6Rs of learning as well as the children's handprints.

   

  The second hanging is made up of the children's representations of the school in felt and will hang above the serving hatch in the hall.

   

  Once both are safely installed we will invite parents and the community in to come and see them in situ.

   

  Thank you again to Mrs Ford for sharing her expertise, and to the Rutland Arts Society for funding the project.

  

• Sportsmark Award

  I am very pleased to let parents know that we have again been awarded the Silver Sportsmark Award - no mean feat for a small school! 

   

  The award of the Silver Sportsmark recognises the commitment our children and staff put into their sports, and the levels of participation in sporting events in and out of school. 84% of our children took part in sports activities outside school this year, either through RSSP competitions and events or through the RLT athletics event in June. Amongst other things children have participated in swimming, cross country, tag rugby, tri-golf, multi-skills festivals, basketball, rounders, Spotlight Dance and athletics to name just a few events, as well as throwing themselves into sporting activities at school.

   

  A huge thank you to Mrs Ranson for putting together the application for the award and for all of her hard work behind the scenes. Thank you also to the office staff for their organisation of coaches, permission letters and many other behind the scene tasks necessary to make these activities happen. 

   

  There are lots of exciting sporting activities planned for next year, and with out new playground markings to encourage more physical activities at playtime there will be lots of opportunities for all to take part.

• Summer Developments!

  The school is undergoing a substantial make-over over the holidays, with rearrangement of furniture in classrooms, new displays, and new playground markings.

   

  The playground markings are already down and ready for the children at the beginning of term. There are lots of new games and activities to try, as well as 'golden mile' markings (23 laps of the playground = 1 mile!) and new netball court markings. 

   

  Classes 1 and 2 are undergoing transformations with their new teachers, with spaces being opened up and new areas being developed. 

   

  The library books have been sorted and those that are out of date have been removed to make the book selection easier to see and more exciting. The books have been boxed up ready for the library's relocation later this year.

   

  Corridor spaces are being 'reimagined' to make these part of an interactive learning environment. 

   

  Things are coming together nicely!

  

• Year 6 Leavers' Assembly

  What a fantastic afternoon saying goodbye to our year 6!

   

  Our 'Fab Four' did themselves proud in their leavers' play - a glance back through their time at Exton with the help of the Tardis and Doctor Who. Thank you to year 4 and 5 who helped them produce their memories through a short drama. The four songs chosen by the year 6 were sung beautifully and '1,2,3, you can count on me' reduced many of the audience (and participants) to tears with it's apt message. 

   

  We are so proud of all that our year 6 have achieved during their time with us at Exton & Greetham. Whether you have been with us since the beginning of Reception, or whether you joined us during this year, we are proud of everything you have achieved and of the wonderful young people you have become. We hope that you stay in touch and let us know how you are getting on. As I said in the assembly - once you have been part of the Exton & Greetham family,  you remain so, how every old you are, and how every far away you go. We continue to think of you fondly, and hope you think of us fondly too. You all have fantastic potential, and can achieve whatever you want to achieve. Keep trying, believe in the power of yet, and remember that all your friends are behind you.
