Supporting an Ex-Pupil Fundraising for Meningitis Now

Thank you so much to all those parents who supported former pupil Alec Shillaker (1985-1992) in his quest to raise funds for Meningitis Now a couple of weeks ago. I am pleased to report that following the first round of voting, Alec’s entry made it into the top 10. They have now reset the votes for the final round and they have until 5pm on the 30th September to get as many people as they can to vote for them (and verify the vote by clicking the link in the e-mail).

Alec has emailed to thank you for your support and has asked you to think about voting again. He says:

“Everyone can vote again and we now need more help than ever to try and win this money for the charity.  I appreciate that I'm asking a lot and you've already done more than I could imagine, but could I possible ask for your assistance one last time?

Thank you so much for your help.”

Alec’s Competition Entry

The Challenge

We are attempting the biggest challenge of our lives by trekking the highest mountain in the Southern & Western hemispheres. Aconcagua in Argentina is the 2nd highest of the 7 summits after Everest. It'll take 27 days, with temperatures as low as -30C

The Charity

At 9 months old our son, Finn, developed pneumococcal meningitis. Fortunately he survived & appears to have no lasting effects, however the speed at which it took hold, the helplessness we felt and the fear of almost losing him makes us want to help others

The Training

Finn himself has helped with the training; he has his own walking boots and has already been up Snowdon twice. We have also climbed it ourselves 3 times in 1 day as endurance training. My wife, who is also doing the trek, is running & doing a half marathon.

It costs nothing to vote, and they would be very grateful if you would be prepared to support them. All you need to do to register a vote is to visit the website: http://www.mountainwarehouse.com/charity/entries/aconcagua-6962m-22841ft-upthendown-e2536.aspx

We always refer to Exton & Greetham CE Primary School as a big family, and it is lovely that an ex-pupil has felt able to contact us for support.
