African Drumming Workshops

On Monday, we welcomed Keba from the Rutland Music Hub to the school to teach us all a little bit of African Drumming.

The day started with an introduction to African Drumming and the drums for the whole school, before each class had a workshop. Each class was able to practise different patterns on the Djembe and learn about the different sounds (bass and tone) that could be made by hitting different parts of the drum head. We learnt about where in Africa the drums and drumming patterns come from (West Africa), and a little about how the drums are made.

The children enjoyed the opportunity to make music together, and discovered the importance of being resilient and keeping going when things get tricky, as drumming is not as easy as it looks!

The day ended with a performance by Cobalt and Navy classes to the younger children. The children had an amazing time, and would like to know when Keba can come again!

A huge thank you to Keba for coming and sharing his expertise. See you again soon!
