Welcome to

Exton & Greetham CE Primary School

A Visit from the High Sheriff of Rutland

It was lovely to welcome Air Commodore S M D Williamson-Noble, the High Sheriff of Rutland, to Exton and Greetham CE Primary School. He came to talk to Key Stage 2 about World War I, and shared many interesting artefacts with the children.

The High Sheriff came armed with interesting facts and figures about how many people lived in both Exton and Greetham in 1914. We were surprised to find out that Exton was the bigger village 100 years ago! About 10% of each villages population went to war, and about one in ten of these were killed in action.

Key Stage 2 listened with interest to stories of the trenches and asked many interesting questions. It was fascinating to hear extracts from a diary written in the trenches and see a genuine present that was sent to soldiers fighting in World War I as a Christmas present.

The High Sheriff also showed the children his ceremonial sword, and everyone was keen to hold it!
